Studio Information

The Dance Centre Dress Code

Ballet tights are available for purchase in the lobby. Jazz and ballet shoes are also available in the lobby to use for sizing only. There are instructions for sizing the shoes hanging next to the shoes in the lobby.

To order jazz, ballet, tap or ballroom shoes as well as ballet leos and anything else you might need for dance, please visit www.discountdance.com.  The items required for each class are listed in the dress code associated with our studio.

  • Please use teacher code 61341 when checking out.

  • Once you’re on Discount Dances website click on students link at the very top of the page.

  • It will give you the option to find a studio, find my dress code or find my teacher.

  • You can click on any of those three options and type in either The Dance Centre, Charity Duersch or the teacher ID#61341.

  • Once you’ve located the dress code for our studio, you can choose the class type and it will list the required items for that class. You can purchase those items directly from the links provided and they will be shipped to your house.

  • Returns are also easy through Discount Dance and the instructions are online.

Bra tops cannot be worn alone and must have a shirt covering them. 

Smart watches and phones must be left in the lobby. 

The dress code for classes is as follows:

Ballet Technique Classes 

  • Pink tights – Any pink tights may be worn for rehearsals, however, dancers must wear the pink Weissmans brand tights sold in the studio lobby for pictures and the recital. 

  • Solid Black leotard, this must be a leo, shorts attached to the leo are not allowed.

  • Pink split sole ballet shoes – these should be purchased through discount dance or another reputable dance store….no Walmart or Target type ballet Shoes.

  • Hair must be pulled back neatly in a bun. No ponytails.

  • No jewelry

  • Dancers may wear a color leo during the last week of the month. Color leos may also be worn by any of the dancers to Nutcracker rehearsals.

  • Pointe classes need to wear a short chiffon ballet skirt

Progressing Ballet Technique Classes

  • Spandex or other form fitting clothes – can also wear ballet leo and tights with feet rolled up.

  • Bare feet

  • Hair is to be pulled back away from the face and neck. A low pony tail or braids is best as much of the work in this class is done laying on your back and a bun or high pony tail can be uncomfortable.

All Jazz, Leaps and Turns Classes, Flexibility and Contemporary Classes

  • Spandex or other form fitting top and jazz shorts or spandex type leggings.

  • Tan split sole Jazz shoes required for ALL jazz classes. Senior company jazz class can wear lyrical shoes, socks or bare feet but will also be required to have jazz shoes.

  • Jazz shoes are not required for contemporary classes, any type of shoe may be used including bare feet and socks.

  • Hair is to be pulled back away from the face and neck

  • No jewelry or long, sharp fingernails.

Dance Competition Teams 

Bra tops cannot be worn alone and must have a shirt covering them.  

  • Form fitted tops and shorts in black or gray.

  • Hair must be up out of the face in a ponytail or bun.

  • Shoes required for this class will be the shoes you’re performing in and will vary with each team.

  • No jewelry or long, sharp fingernails.

2-3 year old and Kindergarten Combo Classes (Ballet and Jazz) 

  • Leotard

  • Pink Tights

  • Pink Ballet shoes – split sole shoes work best for this age, no Walmart or Target type shoes.

  • Dancers can accessorize with a tutu or a skirt. For our younger dancers it works best if the tutu or skirt is attached to the leo.

  • They will have a “free” day on the last lesson of every month, where they can wear whatever dance attire they would like to.

Preschool Combo Classes (Ballet and Tap) 

  • Leotard

  • Pink Tights

  • Black Tap Shoes

  • Pink Ballet shoes – split sole shoes work best for this age, no Walmart or Target type shoes.

  • Dancers can accessorize with a tutu or a skirt. For our younger dancers it works best if the tutu or skirt is attached to the leo.

  • They will have a “free” day on the last lesson of every month where they can wear whatever dance attire they would like to.

First Grade Combo Class

  • Ballet leos, shorts and form fitting tanks or shirts are ok for this class.

  • Tan jazz shoes will need to be purchased for the jazz portion.

  • Pink ballet shoes will need to be purchased for the ballet portion – split sole shoes, no Walmart or Target type shoes.

  • Hair must be up out of the face in a ponytail or bun

Tumbling 

  • Leotard with shorts or leggings

  • Bare Feet

  • Hair is to be pulled back away from the face and neck

  • No jewelry or long, sharp fingernails.

Hip Hop 

  • Baggy clothes, sweats or hip hop style pants are encouraged.

  • Oversized tanks tops and tee shirts are also ok.

  • Tennis shoes are required.

Ballroom 

  • Girls

    • Tight fitted dance top and jazz capri or jazz pants to see alignment. No baggy clothing.

    • A dance skirt with shorts or leggings underneath is also ok.

    • Tan Latin dance shoe with 2.5” heel for older, experienced dancers.  Younger, beginning dancers (12 years and younger) need to have a shorter Cuban heel 1.5″ – MUST HAVE HEEL GUARDS.

    • Hair up and out of the face

    • No jewelry

  • Boys

    • Work out type clothing, Under Armour, basketball shorts etc.

    • Black latin shoes

Tap 

  • Girls

    • Same as what you would wear for a jazz class. No baggy clothing.

    • Tan character tap shoes with 1.5” heel

    • Hair up and out of the face

    • No jewelry

  • Boys

    • Work out type clothing, Under Armour, basketball shorts etc.

    • Black tap shoes
